What these machines cost

VFFS machines separate into price classes by architecture, not brand. Sourced FOB benchmarks: entry-level intermittent VFFS $1,640–$17,800; mid-range servo/continuous VFFS $15,000–$120,000; high-end rotary/multi-lane VFFS $25,000–$150,000. These are order-of-magnitude FOB bands — always quote with your film, product and target output, and add the weigher, forming shoulder and change parts, which are usually quoted separately.

Buyer beware: the 4 VFFS-specific pitfalls

  1. Headline speed on the wrong film. A bagger quoted at 300 bags/min on a light pillow film may halve on a thick high-barrier laminate — always re-quote the speed on your film.
  2. The weigher is quoted separately. A VFFS is half the system; the multihead weigher or auger filler is often a separate line item. Price the bagger plus the dosing system together.
  3. Seal dwell vs speed. Continuous and rotary motion trade seal dwell for speed; a high-barrier or MAP film that needs long dwell may force a long-dwell machine, not the fastest one.
  4. Changeover discipline. A 1-minute tool change means nothing if your operators cannot repeat it; require a timed, demonstrated changeover with your formats.

  4. What is a full format change time, demonstrated by my operators? Time a real changeover.
  5. Can you run 200 bags on my film and product and show me the seal-strength and weight data? The witnessed run is the only proof that matters.
