Malaysia is fast solidifying its position as a regional destination for high-value, technology-driven industries through the strategic development of advanced manufacturing and precision agro-machinery hubs. Two recent milestones, in Penang and Perak, mark critical steps in the nation’s long-term ambition to build an ecosystem that supports innovation, automation and productivity across key economic sectors.
In Penang, a new robotics application and demonstration centre has officially opened in Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, strengthening Malaysia’s status as an automation hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
The centre features a state-of-the-art Application Centre with dedicated areas for demonstrations in electronics, automotive, logistics and medical technology sectors. It also includes a warehouse logistics system and a dedicated training area to support skill development in industrial automation.
The launch of the Penang facility was accompanied by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a prominent national technical and vocational training centre to facilitate workforce development in the field of robotics and smart manufacturing. This collaboration aligns closely with the objectives of the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, Malaysia’s blueprint to drive industrial innovation, digitalisation and global competitiveness.
The Penang facility is expected to serve as a central platform for enhancing local and regional capabilities in intelligent automation. By offering comprehensive support, including training, customer demonstrations and technical engagement, it aims to empower businesses across Malaysia and neighbouring countries to embrace Industry 4.0 solutions and transform their manufacturing processes.
It is also expected to foster stronger integration across industrial supply chains, enabling Malaysian firms to scale and compete globally in high-tech sectors, driving innovation, enhancing productivity and supporting sustainable economic development regionally.
Simultaneously, in Seri Iskandar Industrial Park, Perak, a strategic partnership has been formed to establish a High-Tech Agro Machinery Hub. Announced at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, the partnership entails an initial investment of RM30 million to build a production facility and distribution network for advanced agricultural machinery.
The focus is on serving both domestic and regional markets, particularly in the areas of palm oil, paddy and rubber, leveraging smart technologies, digital analytics and automation to optimise agricultural efficiency and sustainability.
This agro-mechanisation initiative is a major boost for Perak, where agriculture contributes approximately 14.2% to the state’s GDP. The hub is designed to enhance productivity and sustainability in Malaysia’s agricultural sector through the introduction of precision farming and digital technology.
By integrating high-performance machinery, the initiative supports national goals for food security, improved rural livelihoods and export competitiveness. It will also open opportunities for local engineers, technicians and SMEs to participate in the modernisation of agriculture, enabling the creation of new value-added services and support industries.
The collaboration also signals a strong commitment to technology transfer and the development of local expertise.
